ARCURI NAMED TO TRANSPORTATION SUBCOMMITTEES

Washington, DC -- During the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s organizational meeting today, U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri (D-Utica) was appointed to serve on the Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management; Water Resources and Environment; and Highway and Transit subcommittees.

“I am extremely pleased at the opportunity to serve on subcommittees that will address the most pressing issues in my district,” Arcuri said. “The Committee’s legislative priorities will help provide the resources we urgently need to improve our highways, prevent flooding, and develop infrastructure to create more jobs.”

During the 110th Congress the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will focus on a host of initiatives, including: reauthorization of the Water Resources Development Act, which deals with all major water and flood control projects; reauthorization of the State Revolving Fund under the Clean Water Act; transit and rail security; and global climate change. Specifically, each subcommittee plans to focus on:

Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management:
• Economic Development Administration reauthorization
• Regional Economic Development Commissions reauthorization, including reauthorization of the Appalachian Regional Commission (expired in 2006); the Delta Regional Authority (expires in 2007); the Northern Great Plains Regional Authority (expires in 2007); and the Denali Regional Commission (expired in 2003);

Water Resources and Environment:
• Passing the Water Resources Development Act
• Accelerating the dredging of harbors in the Great Lakes 
• Reauthorizing and strengthening the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, the primary Federal program responsible for funding wastewater infrastructure improvements and working toward finally meeting the goals of the Clean Water Act

Highway and Transit:
• Ensuring appropriations for the increase in transportation funding guaranteed to the states under SAFETEA-LU
